Childhood best friends and next-door neighbours Stephen Madsen and Ashleigh Rubenach are reuniting on the stage for one night only to deliver the concert their families could only dream of.
From self-devised Christmas musicals in Stephen’s front-yard all the way to the Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC, Stephen and Ashleigh have been a package-deal from day one. You’ve seen them in mainstage productions all over Australia, including Heathers, The Sound of Music, The View Upstairs, An American In Paris, Rent, Cry-Baby, Holding Achilles, Sweeney Todd and together in Muriel’s Wedding. Drawing from decades of shared material, ‘The Boy & Girl Next Door’ features tunes from Sondheim to High School Musical and everything in between. ASHLEIGH RUBENACH – BIO
Sydney Theatre Award-winning actress Ashleigh Rubenach most recently starred as ‘Johanna’ in Sweeney Todd at the Sydney Opera House (Victorian Opera). Growing up on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Ashleigh graduated with a Bachelor of Music Theatre from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She has graced the stage as ‘Milo Davenport’ in GWB Entertainment’s An American in Paris, 'Billie Bendix' in Nice Work If You Can Get It (MGP) and 'Allison Vernon-Williams' in Cry-Baby (LPD/Hayes Theatre Co). Other notable credits include Anything Goes (GFO/OA), The Sound of Music (GFO), My Fair Lady (OA), Funny Girl (SSO) and Muriel’s Wedding (Global Creatures). Ashleighis a Talent Development Project alumni and a proud member of MEAA Actors Equity.
STEPHEN MADSEN – BIO
Stephen’s theatre credits include Muriel’s Wedding (STC/ Global Creatures), Holding Achilles (Dead Puppets Society/ Legs on the Wall), White Pearl (STC), Sex Magick (Griffin), Cleansed (Red Line), Torch Song Trilogy (Darlinghurst Theatre Company), Heathers (Australian Tour), Rent (Hayes Theatre), The View Upstairs (Hayes Theatre), and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Sport for Jove). He is a four-time Sydney Theatre Award nominee. As a TDP/ASCAP Bound for Broadway Scholarship winner, he headlined a televised concert at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C. His screen credits include Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries, Secret Bridesmaid’s Business and the independent feature Marley, Someone.
