No not the musical! The animals so revered by the ancient Egyptian women that they were woven into the family art and hieroglyphs alongside Mum as she cooked the dinner– well not much different to today really BUTdon’t join them because you love cats–join them because Single Cat Ladies are BADASS and much cooler than history and reputation would have you believe.
Forget Josie and thePussy Cats, Stray Cats, Pussycat Dolls and The Cat Empire- SingleCat Ladies (who are rock Chicks at heart with a sprinkle of Jazz and even Musical Theatre on top) are far from miserable and ready to have a great time at Claire’s!
MARGI DE FERRANTI Biography
A distinguished luminary in the realm of musical theatre, Margi de Ferranti has enjoyeda flourishing and esteemed career since her auspicious debut in 1986. With a profound portfolio of theatrical, film, and television credits, as well as a plethora of prestigious accolades, her contributions to the Australian entertainment landscape are truly remarkable. Her theatrical ventures have been a testament to her versatile artistry. Throughout her career she has played leading roles in renowned productions such as: Fantine in Les Misérables (Cameron Mackintosh), Giulietta in Aspects of Love (The Really UsefulCompany), Maria Elena Holly inThe Buddy Holly Story (The Buddy Holly Company), Rizzo in Grease (John Frost Organisation), Housewife in Working– The Musical Glen StTheatre), Ilona in She Loves Me( Two’s Company), Dot in Sunday in the Park with George (NIDA), Donna in Mamma Mia( Louise Withers & Associates), and with her performance as Miss Bell in Fame The Musical garnering her a prestigious Mo Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. Alongside being a leading lady of musical theatre, Margi has also spent over 25 years writing and performing in cabaret. Noteworthy among her achievements is her distinction as the Inaugural Winner of the Sydney Cabaret Convention. Through her work in cabaret and concert she has graced some of the world’s best stages including The Sydney Opera House and renowned cabaret venue Eighty Eight’s in New York City in show such as It’sDelightful, It’s Delicious, It’s De Ferranti, You’re Going to Love Tomorrow, Dear Marjorie–A Cabaret, This Joint is Jumpin’– My Hip Replacement and Margi Sings Her Hits Off, further amplifying her artistic legacy
Beyond the stage, Margi has appeared on screen alongside acclaimed actors Glen Close and Harry Connick Jr. in South Pacific (2001) and made guest appearances in All Saints and White Collar Blue (2002), demonstrating her ability to seamlessly transition between different media. Yet, perhaps one of Margi's most endearing contributions lies in her role as a mentor and educator. Focusing her efforts on nurturing emerging stars and industry professionals, she imparts her profound knowledge to eager learners at renowned performing arts schools such as The Actor's Centre (ACA), MacDonald College, Brent St, and The Conservatorium of Music (B.A. Music Theatre). Later creating her own studio–Margi De Ferranti’s Vocal Expertise- Margi further solidified her reputation as one ofSydney's premier singing teachers for aspiring musical theatre artists. In her work she inspires her students to master their craft, sharing insights into song selection, audition techniques, and vocal artistry. Many of her proteges have graced the stages of notable productions, including Mary Poppins, Shrek the Musical,Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Caroline or Change, School of Rock, and Fun Home, to name just a few, testifying to the enduring impact of her mentorship. Amid her commitment to teaching, Margi continues to command the stage with recent credits including Margaret White in Carrie the Musical (Squabbalogic), Dr. Charlotte in Falsettos( Darlinghurst Theatre), Duchess of Woodford in Nice Work if You Can Get It (Neglected Musicals) and her outstanding performance as Miss Thorn in Ruthless( Seymour Centre), which earned her a well-deserved nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical at The Sydney Theatre Critics Awards. Her artistic prowess has garnered well-deserved recognition, including the 2019 Glug Award for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress in a musical for her performance of Abuela Claudia in the sold-out production of In The Heights (Blue Saint Productions, Hayes Theatre and Sydney Opera House) and following a decade-long hiatus, Margi made a captivating return to the cabaret stage with her show Mum Loves Dionne (Warwick) at Claire's Kitchen in October 2019, earning her the esteemed 2020 Glug Award for Most Outstanding Cabaret. BEV KENNEDY Biography
Bev Kennedy is generally regarded as one of Australia’s leading Musical Directors & accompanists, having worked on over 40 professional music theatre productions. Shows she has worked on include Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia, The Producers, We Will RockYou, The Lion King, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Chicago, & the concert version of Sunset Boulevard with Judi Conelli.
She was assistant Musical Director for Simon Gallaher’s Pirates of Penzance, which is the highest selling recording of a musical in Australian history & also won an Aria award for best soundtrack. Most recently Bev has been working on the shows, An American in Paris, 9 to 5, Schoolof Rock, Muriel’s Wedding, Heathers, Jersey Boys, Wicked & was Musical Director on Ave Q. She was also nominated for a Green room award for her work as Musical Director on the Australian Premiere of Gutenberg the Musical. Bev has also worked for Cove musical theatre agents booking musicians & entertainersat the Regent Hotel during the Olympics when it was the official SOCOG Hotel & host to several international dignitaries & Royal families. Bev has worked as Musical Director for 2 years on Short Sweet & Song & for several Mardi Gras‘Hats Off’ Concerts, including the 2008 Hats Off Meets the Stars Come out 30th year Anniversary concert. She has also worked as Musical Director for the last 4 years on Light the Night charity concert raising money for leukemia research. In 2008, Bev was the official pianist at the World Youth Day Papal welcome which was televised worldwide & the year before played at Kerry Packer’s memorial which was also broadcast live around the World. In 2011 Bev was Musical Director for the Luminale Festival at the Sydney Opera House under the direction of Paul Capsis. In the past Bev has accompanied International artists such as Joan Rivers, Grammy award winners Thelma Houston, Liz Callaway, Sir Bryn Terfell, and continues to play for local artists such as Trevor Ashley, Marina Prior & Anthony Warlow. She is currently aconsultant & Adjudicator for the City of Sydney Eisteddfod & a consultant for the Talent Development Project.Bev also works as a regular performer on the Bravo Cruise of the performing arts, and in 2017 had the great honour of performing with Jose Carreras–one of the most successful recording artists of all time. In 2018, Bev enjoyed the honour of working with Tina Arena on the sellout show Evita at the Opera House and played on the hit show Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Capitol theatre. In April 2019 Bev toured Australia with Grammy award winning English dance duo Basement Jaxx.
