Stewart D’Arrietta and his band offer gutsy and imaginative arrangements of the great singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen’s most powerful works. 

The iconic Tower of Song, the heartrending Suzanne, the desperately sensual I’m Your Man , and the anthemic Hallelujah, are just a few of the Cohen favourites given the D’Arrietta treatment.

Expect to ‘laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again’.

Beneath the roaring bluster and cyclonic musicality, the sinewy strands of romance weave poignant and compelling stories of life, love, lust and loss – this performer’s favourite themes.

D’Arrietta has enjoyed a long career as a performer , composer and music director, performing in venues across the globe from Sydney to New York to Tokyo.

BIO:

Stewart D’Arrietta is most recognised for the iconic ‘Lennon Through a Glass Onion’, a show he co-created with John Waters and has consistently performed internationally in various versions since 1992.

D’Arrietta’s award winning show, ‘My Leonard Cohen’ has performed around Australia and the UK, and sold out at the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe, the Sydney Opera House and the Melbourne Arts Centre. In May 2023 the show will tour multiple venues across Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany and Ireland, as well as in London in June 2023.

His homage to the music of Tom Waits, ‘Tom Waits For No Man’, was a sold out smash hit in Claire’s Kitchen last year. It premiered in New York and got rave reviews from The New York Times, Variety and Village Voice. In the UK, The Sunday Times recommended it as ‘one of the top 10 shows to see at the 2018 Edinburgh Fringe’.

His larger-than-life presence, irreverent humour and distinctive growl, bring a unique passion and texture to some of the greatest songs and stories ever told.

Stewart has been the musical director, composer and performer in a number of notable productions. Currently he is composing the music for an upcoming musical ‘The Hunchback Of Leicester Carpark’ due to premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2023.
