Synopsis
An exploration of complicated, hopeful, brave, and nuanced characters in musical theatre
Isha brings her favourite women in musicals to life whilst sharing why she resonates with these characters with an intimate audience. From standing up for what you believe in to laying it all on the line for love, Isha takes notes on what the most iconic roles in musicals can teach her.
Nurjhan Toi
Synopsis
From the oldest of soul songs to the grooviest musical theatre music. Nurjhan will take you on a rollercoaster of sheer joy, and emotional tingles and have you getting out of your seats. She is inspired by the Queen and Kings of gospel music and rhythm and blues. Nurjhan sings her songs from the deepest part of her heart and shares the true meaning of soulfulness.
Isha Desai
Bio
Isha Desai is an emerging Indian Australian music theatre performer, who graduated from the Diploma of Music Theatre at WAAPA (2022). During WAAPA, she played Ms Tottendale in The Drowsy Chaperoneand was a writer/performer in an original cabaret ‘The Quarter’, about POC experiences in music theatre. She also completed the Shaun Rennie Music Theatre Ensemble at The Hub Studio and the Young Actors Studio at NIDA. Most recently, she was a performer at the Wildheart Creatives’ Christmas Cabaret(2022) and played Jay in new Australian work ‘Dreamrunners’ (2023). Isha has studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Sydney and is passionate about exploring the intersection of politics and theatre. She is incredibly excited to performing at Claire’s Kitchen alongside Nurjhan Toi.
Nurjhan Toi
Bio
Nurjhan Toi is a triple-threat performer who recently graduated with a Diploma in Musical Theatre from NIDA, The National Institute of Dramatic Arts (2023). Nurjhan is featured in an upcoming short film and has done multiple music gigs for charity events to raise money for not-for-profit organizations. Nurjhan recently played Salvo (Evangelist) in the new Australian musical ‘Dreamrunners’. She is excited to bring her signature enthusiasm and energy to Claire’s Kitchen and can't wait to perform alongside Isha Desai.
