Burt Bacharach was a prolific composer throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Much of his output was written in collaboration with lyricist Hal David and many of his most iconic tunes were recorded and made famous by Dionne Warwick. In this show Di, Craig, and Michael will be performing hits such as Walk on By, The Look of Love, A House is Not a Home, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, Wives and Lovers, Always Something There To Remind Me, plus many others. These songs along with anecdotes and stories about Burt and Dionne including their at times stormy working relationship make for a fascinating journey through this wonderful music.
Di Bird has established herself as a top vocalist performing at many iconic Jazz festivals including Manly, Magnetic Island, Norfolk Island, Bay of Islands, Queenstown and Devonport just to name a few. She has studied under the musical baton of the late great Kerrie Biddell and swing is her thing! In addition to a long career as a leading jazz vocalist Di was the creative force behind the show “A Tapestry of Fire and Rain” which featured the music of Carole King and James Taylor. This new project features the iconic hits that Bacharach penned for Dionne Warwick.
Craig Scott has been one of Australia’s leading bassists for over 40 years, having worked with such notable Australian jazz musicians as Don Burrows, James Morrison, Kerrie Biddell and Julian Lee. He was Chair of Jazz Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music from 2003-2017. Craig has been performing with Di Bird for over 15 years in many different musical contexts including the musical direction for the Bacharach/Warwick project.
Michael Bartolomei has enjoyed an extensive career as a pianist, composer and arranger. He has worked with everyone from Johnny Farnham and Tina Arena to the Supremes. He has also worked extensively in small and large jazz ensembles with many of Australia’s leading musicians including Kerrie Biddell, Scott Tinkler, Carl Fontana (USA), Julian Lee, Sydney All Stars Big Band and many others. For the last 7 years Michael has worked with Di Bird as musical director of the Tapestry show.
