Singing sensation Christa Hughes and sublime pianist Leonie Cohen have
performed together for the last two decades. Their theatrical fusion is hypnotising.
From Lowdown’n’Dirty to Punk-Cabaret to Sweet’n’Heady, this genre-bending show
is laced with a spontaneity that is tight in its looseness. Expect to be enthralled with
renditions of Brittney, Liza, Iggy Pop, Chisel and Hughes “top-shelf”(SMH) originals
that are daring, mischievous and intoxicating.
CHRISTA HUGHES BIO
Christa Hughes started performing as a teenager, belting out vaudeville blues songs
of the 1920s & 30s with her boogie-woogie pianist dad Dick Hughes. Since then, she
has delighted and entertained audiences in the rock band Machine Gun Fellatio, as
the ring mistress of Circus Oz, as the dive-bar diva in the Hong Kong arthouse film
Away with Words, as herself in the AFI winning film You Only Live Twice (the
Incredibly True Story of the Hughes Family) and as a wild and hilarious burlesque-
performer theatrically delivering her unique cabaret-creations. From her humble yet
bustling’n’rowdy start at the Shakespeare Hotel Sydney, she has gone on to perform
at salons and parlours in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Europe, and on Broadway.
LEONIE COHEN BIO
Leonie Cohen is one of Australia’s finest jazz pianists. She has performed with Christa Hughes, David Campbell and Club Swizzle (La Soirée). Notable performances include Sydney Opera House, Angel Place, Sydney Festival, Melbourne International Women’s Jazz Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Spiegel Tent, Shir Madness, JJC (Tokyo), EZ’s Woodshed (NY), Fringe Club (Hong Kong) and Raffles Theatre (Singapore). As composer, Cohen has received several commissions from the Sydney Opera House and the ABC, including her highly acclaimed album “Jerusalem”.
